FIFA announced on Tuesday that Saudi Arabia has been chosen to host the 2023 Club World Cup in December.

The Saudi Arabian Football Federation has been chosen by the FIFA Council to organize the competition, which features the six continental champions as well as the national champions of the host country.

The competition will run from December 12 through December 22.

The Asian Football Confederation chose Saudi Arabia earlier this month to host the Asian Cup in 2027.

The nation has already played home to major events including the Riyadh Grand Prix, the world championship fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua in 2022, and the Spanish Super Cup this year.

The FIFA Council meeting approved an enlarged 32-team competition beginning in 2025 and agreed revisions to the Club World Cup's format.

There will be 12 spots available for UEFA, six for CONMEBOL, four for each of CONCACAF, CAF, and the AFC, one for the OFC, and two for the hosts.

As joint tournament hosts, the United States, Mexico, and Canada will automatically qualify for the 2026 World Cup; their spots will be subtracted from CONCACAF's total allotment of six teams. This was also reaffirmed during the FIFA conference.
