When images apparently showing some pupils abusing their juniors and cutting off their hair went popular on social media, the superintendent of a government-run residential school in Chhattisgarh’s Kabirdham district was relieved of his duties.

Once the videos were circulated extensively, police filed a complaint against eight pupils, seven of whom were minors, and district officials started an investigation.

Officials claim that the alleged event occurred on March 11 at the Eklavya Model Residential School in the Targegaon Jungle hamlet, part of the Bodla development area, and that recordings of it appeared on social media on Tuesday.

Kabirdham Collector Janmejay Mahobe assembled a team of district authorities to look into the event when the district government learned about the footage.

According to early findings, the residential school’s principal, Pramod Prakash, has been given a show-cause notice, while Malikram Markam, the school’s superintendent, has been fired from his position, a government official said.

In one of the films, numerous small children can be seen sitting on the ground and watching while a boy is shown hitting a junior student and using a pair of scissors to cut off his hair.

According to preliminary investigation, kids from Class 11 are accused of assaulting and cutting the hair of Grade 6 children while filming the incident on a mobile device, said the government official.

A lawsuit has been filed against eight pupils from the school’s Class 11, including seven minors, for allegedly beating up their juniors based on a report from administrators. Manisha Thakur, an additional superintendent of police in Kabirdham, said.
