In conjunction with the CID’s probe into the suspected leak of a class 10 state board exam question paper, students and instructors from different regions of Assam were brought here on Wednesday for interrogation.

An official informed PTI that the CID has already made three arrests in the case.

“All around Assam, we have imprisoned teachers, students, and other people. They were sent to Guwahati for further interrogation “the official stated, without revealing any information.

The Assam Police filed a criminal complaint on Monday and sent the probe over to the CID. Yesterday, DGP GP Singh said on Twitter that 22 persons had been arrested in Guwahati, North Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Sadiya, Dibrugarh, and Tinsukia.

Prasanta Kumar Bhuyan, a spokesman for the Assam Police, had previously informed PTI that the three people detained were all students at the Government Deaf and Dumb School in Guwahati. “They are all graduates of Guwahati’s Government Deaf and Dumb School, Kahilipara. One of the 42 packets of exam papers intended for the school was missing. There is a good reason to detain them, “added said.

The Inspector General of Assam Police (Law and Order) said that the school’s principal, a teacher, and a casual employee, Bhuyan, were among those detained.

Ranoj Pegu, the minister of education, said that the CID is looking into the document leak to determine its cause. “Thus far, several students have been detained or arrested, along with others. But in order to determine where the document leak came from, we must exercise patience and wait till the CID investigation is complete “explained he.

The questioning takes place in the midst of demonstrations by Assamese student and youth organisations who are calling for the resignation of the state’s education minister due to the leak of the General Science exam paper. The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), the Satra Mukti Sangram Samiti (SMSS), the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), and the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chhatra Parishad (AJYCP) conducted protests and burned Pegu effigies in several locations throughout the state.

Prior to the commencement of the day’s sessions, the opposition Congress also staged a protest outside the Assembly entrance, calling for clarification on the matter.

“The test was cancelled because certain documents were [shared] on WhatsApp, the administration informed us in the House. They must explain what exactly transpired, “Debabrata Saikia, the opposition’s leader, stated.

Following complaints of leakage, the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) decided to cancel the class 10 general science test late on Sunday night. The SEBA said that the general science test that had been postponed will now take place on March 30.
