According to authorities, a third student opened fire outside a high school in the Dallas area before being taken into custody on Monday morning, leaving one student dead and another wounded.

According to police and school district representatives, the shooting started at a high school site in the Arlington suburb at 6:55 a.m., before many students arrived for the first day back to schools following the spring break.

According to Arlington Independent School District spokeswoman Anita Foster, two students were injured by “debris from the incident” and one by bullets that struck a pupil. Al Jones, the chief of police for Arlington, said on Monday that the student who had been shot had passed away in a hospital and that the second victim was being treated for non-life-threatening wounds.

The alleged gunman, according to Arlington police, never entered the Lamar High School building and was apprehended shortly after cops arrived. At 7:21 a.m., they tweeted that the situation was under control.

As the alleged shooter is a kid, Tim Ciesco, a spokesperson for the police, indicated that his identity would not be made public. He said that the department will provide further details during a press conference in the afternoon.

Prior to the start of classes, according to Foster, school buses and other incoming students were detoured away from the campus.

Parents and others were warned by officials to avoid the school while police conducted their investigation. Police said at 10:40 a.m. that they had finished searching the school and would return the pupils to their guardians at a “reunification center” beginning at noon.
